TITLE |
Couch Trip, The (1988) |
NOTES |
Dan Ackroyd
plays a character who has committed some |
kind of
computer fraud and has been sent to Cicero County |
Mental
Correctional Institute. |
When the
resident psychiatrist is interviewing him and leaves |
the room
Ackroyd answers the phone. The call is from the |
agent of a
Beverly Hills doctor who a radio show. The doctor |
has to go
away and needs a replacement. One, he hopes, so |
bad his
audience will be glad on his return. |
But Ackroyd
accepts the job as though he were the |
psychiatrist, escapes from the institute. Of course |
impersonating the Cicero psychiatrist he is a huge success
on the radio
show. This he achieves by speaking straight and |
The film is
one of many in which the 'insane' are more sane |
This isn't a
remarkable film but then it is funny and the |
performances
from Ackroyd and Grodin are good. |
If the film
is 'worth' anything it is in satirising the pomposity |
and
emptiness of some psychiatrists. |
