A film which
attempts to charm us with its tale of loveable |

bums. This
might have been possible in the original story but |

in the
eighties stretches our belief. Nolte is an ex-baseball |

player who
becomes a marine biologist romantically linked |
|
with Winger,
a drifter who becomes a prostitute. One of the |
|
many
colourful characters populating the colourful sets is |
|
mentally ill
(I've been told). |
