NOTES A superb adaptation of Peter Shaffer's play. You may know

Foreman's work from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Here he brings Mozart to life even for those who don't like

classical music. Tom Hulce is brilliant as Mozart but the film

is seen from the perspective of the lesser musician Salieri

who was madly envious of Mozart. The film begins with the

sombre scene of Salieri in an asylum after attempting suicide.

But quickly we're into the world of the Royal court and

Hulce's infectious portrayal of Mozart is almost bound to win

you over. And we might also be as startled as Salieri that

such music of genius should come from such an immature

man.

Salieri's obsessional envy eventually drives him mad.
