The scene is
London of the late nineteenth century which has |
|
become a
breeding ground or refuge for a mixed bag of |
|
political
refugees. Among them is Verloc who makes a living |
|
spying for
the Russians and doubling his money by passing |
|
the same
information to the Metropolitan Police. He is also an agent
provocateur. It is this latter skill he brings to play when a new
Russian ambassador threatens to withdrawn his income if he
doesn't show he's worth it. His action has a domino
effect which causes problems for a number of people. |
