NOTES |
A young
woman lets rooms in the family house which is close |
to Harvard
University. She teaches Special Needs children |
(and smokes
in front of them) Naturally she is an amazing |
teacher
though she has never had any formal training. You |
have to keep
in mind that this is 1987 when teaching was |
perhaps
thought as easy as riding a bike. She actually hits a |
student and
gets away with it. |
She does
manage to teach a 15 year old girl and her |
troublesome
boyfriend to read. |
A lonely
person she finds romance with one her boarders, a |
cellist, but
her modest happiness is upset by her brother |
wanting to
sell the house. |
At times the
film appears to consist of people taking things out of the
fridge and putting them back again. But it's a pleasant film held
together by Stockard Channing. |
There are a
few scenes of her teaching in Special Needs. |
