Though a
great part of this film is not dealing with disability it is a fine
example of a disabled person being shown as part of a small, tight
community. Set in a 1950s small Texas town it is a study of a
group of friends growing up. Sam Bottoms plays a boy with
learning difficulties who is intimidated by many until Timothy
Bottoms takes him under his wing. At the end the boy is
killed by a car as he runs across the road to greet his friend. A
superb evocation of a world which is lost. |
