NOTES |
This film is
NOT about learning difficulties. In fact quite the |
|
opposite.
Travolta as George is out one night staring at the |
|
stars when
he's hit by a shaft of light. From that point he has |
|
superhuman
powers of learning and sensitivity to the earth's |
|
movements.
He forecasts an earthquake. He learns foreign |
|
languages.
He saves a boy's life with the knowledge he's got |
|
from text
books. But you can't acquire a profession or trade |
|
from
reading. Then the FBI gets interested in him. |
|
This isn't
an entirely satisfactory film by any means but it |
|
might be
worth comparing with Charly (1968). In that film |
|
(see above)
Charly starts as a person with learning difficulties. |
