A the beginning Bogarde's character looks like he's at death's door. When he arrives in Canada he is nearly hit by a truck and collapses. He tells the woman who is the romantic interest he has six months to live. He says "There is a beautiful medical phrase for what I've got." But we never get to know. And he recovers quickly and is soon walking up mountains. Later he ends up in hospital after an accident and

has an x-ray and a blood test "There's no sign of any trouble."
