Quite
wonderful film about a teenage boy (Sean Penn) a bit of a daredevil
who meets his father for the first time and discovers
his father is leader of a gang of thieves. Of course the
impressionable kid wants to follow in his father's footsteps.
And we see a side of criminal activity in detail that's not
too common. The gang's speciality is stealing farm equipment. |

At first
there is no violence except implied but when the gang |
|
is
threatened with betrayal the father cold bloodedly kills the
|
|
weak but
devious snitch. At this point the son sees the evil in |
|
The strength
of this film is in the superb performances of |
|
Sean Penn
and Christopher Walken with a strong supporting |
|
cast
including Christopher Penn. |
|
When David
Straithairn who plays one of the gang is |
|
introduced
to the son there's a throwaway remark that's he |
|
epileptic.
But so far as I saw this never impinged during the |
|
