NOTES |
This is the
story of two sisters, Penny and Mary. Mary, the younger and 15 years
old has cystic fibrosis. Since the death of their parents she is
looked after by Penny who is in her mid twenties.
Penny's life is one of marked contrasts. By day she is caring for
her sister and by night she is working as a prostitute and taking
drugs.
Then their 'normal' life is changed with the entry into it of two
men. Penny some years before had a book of poetry published and an
inmate of a state prison reads the book and writes to her. Mary
pretending to be Penny replies. The second man who comes into their
lives is an eastern European refugee who moves in next door.
Though the film closes with Mary's death and I've read the audience
was in tears this film looks like it can be recommended.
