Away
from Her (2006)
a.k.a.
Disabilities: Alzheimer's
Comments: Julie Christie as the wife with Alzheimer's is
shown slowly forgetting where things go in the kitchen. She goes to
see a doctor. She decides she should go into a care facility and her
husband visits one to look over the place.
When we see her in the nursing home with other residents while they
appear representative of such a place she doesn't. However when the
husband visits her there after a month (during which he is not
allowed to visit, a sort of bedding-in process) she doesn't appear
to know who he is.
Then she forms an attachment with another male resident she knew
from childhood. This man becomes very dependent on her and the
husband is jealous. The husband visits the wife of his man and an
attachment forms between them. Though the characters are well played
this second friendship is a bit too co-incidental.
The film ends with the wife being moved to the second floor for
residents who need more nursing care.

never have been put in a home.
