NOTES |
Set in
Yugoslavia, language Serbo-Croat. |
The story of
a feud between two Gypsy families which centres |
around a
forced marriage. |
Because
Matko has made a failed attempt to steal fuel from a train he
must make his son marry the dimunitive Afrodita. |
She is
described as "a horrible, grouchy midget". Clearly the |
image of her
is so bad that no man will marry her unless |
forced to.
But she does in fact find true love. |
Much else
goes on in the complicated world of these mafia- |
like
families. The film is unusual, bizzare and very funny at |
One of the
family patriarchs is in a motorized wheelchair, |
obviously
home-made and including an oxygen tank an a TV |
showing
nothing but "Casablanca". I think he is in the |
wheelchair
following a stroke. |
