version of Hugo's novel. Chaney plays the |

'hunchback'
with over 30 pounds of rubber on his back. This |
|
was covered
with animal hair a common way of representing |
|
the animal
in man. Also Chaney appears to move about on |
|
four 'legs'.
Along with Laughton's portrayal of Quasimodo a |
|
must see.
Quasimodo is one of those characters that define |
|
cinema's
attitude to disabled people. |
