NOTES |
A woman who
cannot speak (she is not deaf) works in a |
sewing shop
in New York. She is raped twice but manages to |
kill the
rapist. Rather than reporting this justifiable killing to |
the police
she cuts up the body and stores it in her fridge. |
She then
makes a number of trips distributing parts around |
the city.
She then begins to kill other men with a gun she had |
from the
rapist. This gun has an endless supply of bullets. |
The main
performance is mind numbingly static with no |
possibility
of understanding the woman's motivation besides |
the obvious.
The other characters especially the old, nosy |
neighbour
are lifted straight from the shop for stereotypes. |
Mainly the
seamy side of New York is shown as a suitable |
backdrop to
this seamy story. |
It is said
of her that she is "working under a tremendous |
handicap . .
. has to work harder than a normal person." Her |
only means
of communication is by writing. It's as though the |
medical
profession had abandoned her. |
This is a
very crude film in all respects. Fans of the director |
will defend
the film but this really is trash film making. The |
acting is
awkward and the scenarios are disjointed. If the |
woman could
speak the script would undoubtedly let her and |
As a very
minor note there is a blind guy sitting outside a shop. |
