NOTES

Good adaptation of Austen's novel (even without the

ubiquitous Emma Thompson). Austen's now in vogue and

though all her novels have basically the same story, finding a

suitable husband, when well done Austen is still interesting on

the screen. Mrs Bates, mother of Miss Bates, is deaf and

played by Phyllida Law, Emma's (Thompson) mother.
