NOTES |
This is a
film of stories from Bocaccio's "Decameron" a |
|
masterpiece
of 14th Century Italian writing and a source for |
|
Chaucer's
Canterbury Tales (also filmed by Pasolini). |
|
One of the
stories involves a deaf and 'mute' gardener who |
|
works in a
nunnery. The story depends on the general |
|
impression
that deaf people cannot speak. But worse the |
|
nuns
conviction that he is also a simpleton which means |
|
there is no
risk if they have sex with him. The joke is on them |
|
since the
gardener isn't really deaf though the Mother Superior(after
taking her chance with him) thinks his ability to speak is the result
of a miracle. |
|
For me this
was a very dull adaptation. |
