NOTES B/W.

This is about a deaf woman who becomes a preacher.

Jenny has been deaf since she was 8 years old when her

father beat her. She just an ordinary country girl who

boyfriend (Burt Reynolds) says: "What do you want to learn to

talk for. Things are just fine the way they are." Then a

travelling evangelist comes to town. When the preacher

prays for her she does speak, and then promptly faints. She

goes to work for the preacher and uses her sexual appeal in

the story of Samson and Deliah.

When a blind man who has travelled a 100 miles is brought

before her she says she can't heal him. But suddenly he can

see and she thinks she has 'cured' him but he's really a fake

paid for by the show. The next day hordes of cripples turn up

and Jenny believes she has the power to heal. But

meanwhile the preacher has fallen in love with Jenny, his wife

is jealous and she denounces Jenny as a fake.

This is old fashioned melodrama. Presumably Jenny's

deafness was psychological rather than physical. We are not

told otherwise.

Harry Swoger plays the 'Big Cripple'

Note film of same name 1995.
