  Deaf Major

TITLE Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

ALT__TITLE

DISABILITY Deaf

COUNTRY UK

LENGTH 120

GENRE Comedy Romance

DIRECTOR Mike Newell

CAST Hugh Grant

Andie McDowell

and a superb supporting cast.

NOTES This is a wonderful film in which everyone plays their part to

perfection. Included here because of the deaf character,

Charles' brother, played by David Bower. This character is

seamlessly integrated into the plot and brings about the

ultimate 'reversal' at the end. Bower is a deaf actor who uses

only signing in the film to wonderful effect; especially the

scene where his girlfriend who is learning signing is given

subtitles. Bower can in reality like many/most deaf people but choose not to.
