NOTES A man (Keaton) dying of lung cancer which has spread from

his kidneys decides to make a video of his life for his yet-to-

be born child. The doc tells him there is little hope and gives

him drugs for the pain. The doc wants him to accept his

condition and gives him 3-4 months but "don't waste it in futile searches." His reply is that he has hope "that's all I have."

His wife (Kidman) wants him to see a Chinese healer but he

mocks her though later relents. The healer diagnoses his

condition just by passing his hands over body adding a few

philosophical phrases. Keaton is cynical.

Making the video he finds he can talk to the camera but not to

his wife.

Keaton is a good actor but he just doesn't fit in this film. We

learn a lot about the man who is dying. We discover he has

difficulties communicating his feelings. But the tone is wrong.

I didn't really care what happened to him because for one

thing when he should be serious he's flip.

The idea is good. Maybe we should all make such a video

because we're all going to die and there's lots we won't have

told our children about.
