TITLE |
Family Thing, A (1996) |
DISABILITY |
Blind
Stuttering |
NOTES |
Duvall's
character lives in Dixie country and discovers when |
his mother
dies that his real mother was black. So he goes to |
Chicago
where he has a brother who is a policeman and |
black. After
the meeting there isn't really anywhere to go |
except
Duvall's journey of self-discovery. But this isn't the |
Duvall we
know and love. He even speaks differently. The |
whole
premise of the film isn't upheld by either the script or |
the acting.
It remains comfortable to watch but not |
interesting.
Irma P. Hall plays his blind aunt with great |
presence
though her character is typecast as being blind and |
James Earl
Jones is a stutterer and plays the brother as |
