Disabilities:  Going blind

Comments:   Tammy writes:
"Czech immigrant Selma (played by Bjork) is working her way through a new life in the United States, where her passion for music and musicals runs counterpoint to the bleakness of her life. In addition to long hours and desperate savings, Selma is slowly losing her sight. If she can save enough money working before she goes blind, she can pay for an operation that will save her son from the same fate.
Despite attempts to hide her growing blindness, one of her friends
understands what's happening and - in his own desperation - steals the money Selma has been saving. Her reaction - and the music it inspires - is astonishing. So, in fact is the ending (which I won't spoil!) Suffice to say that 107 steps will never seem shorter.

For film enthusiasts, one sequence in particular is fascinating. In the
train sequence - a musical number on a freight train - Dogma 95 supporter von Trier used no fewer than 100 cameras to capture the action."
