NOTES Ulrich plays a blind professor, Thomas, who is seeing a
therapist who he fancies. He wears dark glasses outside and uses a guide dog (a collie) but no stick. Goes to appartment of a woman, Mary, who turns out to be the aunt of his ex-girlfriend, Caroline. She's been murdered. then he's off to see his therapist again.
The cops question him in a way that is illegal but this is one of those films which ignores police procedure. Ulrich's reponse "I happen to be blind"
His blindness results from a disease (unnamed) he got 4
years previously.
He has regular sex with a prostitute and jogs with his best
friend using a strap to join them.
This friend is about to marry Caroline but she breaks it off
because she still fancies Thomas.
There's a stupid scene in an unfinished building where he
nearly walks through the hole where a window should be (of
course it would be blowing a gale at that height). But this is
laying down cement which will set later.
He also writes historical novels and has an assistant who
does research for him. He sets her to find out what happened to the coins which were stolen from Mary's appartment (the apparent motive for her murder). And in the tradition of if you don't know what to do next kill someone off the assistant gets it. Then the prosititute though meanwhile Thomas has been seduced by Caroline.
In a redundant scene where Thomas is being trailed by two
muggers and just when we might be worried sick by the
danger to him, this poor blind man, the police following him
arrest them.  Frank, his best friend, is killed next by a disembodied hammer wielding arm.
Everything gets dafter and dafter but Thomas gets his
therapist.
Ulrich doesn't so much do the mandatory blank stare he actually doesn't appear to be blind at all.
