NOTES |
Girl with
cerebral palsy (and slightly autistic) has pen-pal |
|
relationship
with Elvis Presley. Here a nurse (the film is |
|
based on the
nurse's memoir) goes to work at a home for |
|
disabled
children. Great possibilities, small achievements |
|
though many
of the participants are genuinely disabled |
|
This film
features fine acting from Michael Learned (The |
|
Waltons),
Deborah Raffin and
Diane Lane (Perfect Storm, The Glass House). |
|
Lane plays a
patient at a
home for disabled children. She has Cerebral Palsy and is
wheelchair-dependent. She also cannot talk, and occasionally
wears leg |
|
braces.
Learned's character is a doctor at this facility, and |
|
Raffin is a
new nurse.
Both try to draw Lane's character out of her shell. |
|
Lane develops a
pen-pal relationship with Elvis Presley, and that, combined
with Learned's and the other nurse's therapy allows Lane to talk some
and loosen her tight muscles. Most of the movie takes place inside the
facility, which means
there are a lot of disabled children featured in the movie. |
