NOTES During a store robbery involving at least a couple of murders

one of the robbers takes off his mask and this is witnessed by a young boy. The robber conveniently has a facial scar.

The boy was with his case worker (Polly Draper) because he

has autism. The main cop walks around like Rambo but the

case worker gives no hope the boy will be able to describe the robber's face. The kid has a habit of quoting Emerson, Frost and Wordsworth.

The cop goes to a school for disabled children where he (and

us) gets a lecture on autism. The kid's picture gets in the

local paper and of course this sets the robbers hunting for the

only witness. The cop drives off with the kid (no seatbelt, kid

hanging out of window) to a beautiful rural retreat. Where the

cop bonds with the kid. This leaves only for the cop to bond

with the social worker which has been on the cards since

their first meeting. She turns up at the rural idyll, the only

catch being the killers are on their tail.

However after the fashion of so many Kojak episodes on TV

the killers are found not after 60 minutes of detective work

a.k.a lollipop sucking but by the further actions of the killers.

Here the attempts of the killers to silence the witness exposes them to everyone else. Both are shot by the police and 'happily' there's no need for a trial.

At the end of the film as the tall corn waves wildly in the wind

the cop wants to adopt the kid.

Look out during the title for the appearance of "aperance".
