NOTES |
A family
mixed up in crime take their son who is behaving |
|
strangely to
a psychologist. She diagnoses the boy as being |
|
autistic.
His symptoms are an inability to relate to people, lack of speech
and he doesn't want to be held. |
|
The father
discovers his wife is unfaithful and makes her |
|
leave. The
psychologist (Shields) wants to help the boy |
|
develop and
also tries to persuade the father to give up his |
|
dubious
life. But she causes problems when the mother |
|
thinks she's
after her husband. |
|
The issue of
autism is taken seriously and the gangster |
|
element is
unnecessary 'colour'. The film includes a therapy |
|
technique
called 'forced holding'. |
