NOTES A family mixed up in crime take their son who is behaving

strangely to a psychologist. She diagnoses the boy as being

autistic. His symptoms are an inability to relate to people, lack of speech and he doesn't want to be held.

The father discovers his wife is unfaithful and makes her

leave. The psychologist (Shields) wants to help the boy

develop and also tries to persuade the father to give up his

dubious life. But she causes problems when the mother

thinks she's after her husband.

The issue of autism is taken seriously and the gangster

element is unnecessary 'colour'. The film includes a therapy

technique called 'forced holding'.
