NOTES The film is set in 1634 in Canada when a Jesuit missionary is travelling along a river to convert the Indians. His young companion and translator, Daniel, loses an eye and later both of his hands.
The film is realistic both in terms of history and attitudes. The Indians are treated as people i.e. they're both good and bad and inbetween.
[I made a very brief note on this film so if I got it wrong about Daniel's fate please let me know.]
