NOTES |
In a
supermarket a woman forgets who she is. Instead of |
going to the
police she books into a hotel. She has no |
identification on her only cash. When she takes off her coat
she is
surprised to find her dress is covered in blood (hence |
in the
script's terms why she didn't go to police). After |
cleaning
herself and buying new clothes she goes to police |
where she
gets a medical examination. The doctor tells her |
she has
acute non-psychotic syndrome, a made-up term if I |
ever heard
one. He explains this results from too much |
stress and
prescribes her tranquillisers. Suddenly a man |
turns up
claiming to be her husband. He is chief of paedriatic |
surgery. He
says she was on her way to San Diego to see |
her brother.
He takes her home and she is known to their |
neighbour
(the neighbour isn't too friendly since it turns out |
she thought
the woman had had an affair with her husband). |
The husband
hires a woman to 'babysit' her and it is clear she is being
manipulated. She later discovers the pills her |
husband has
prescribed are dangerous. |
The
situation becomes more suspicious with a few red |
herrings
until she discovers her daughter is the victim of |
sexual abuse
(a very badly handled episode). The abuser |
turns out to
be the father and he's done it before to the |
Overall
riddled with cliches and a sense of unreality where the |
amnesia is
simply a plot device. |
