TITLE |
Finding the Way Home (1991) (TV Film) |
NOTES |
Max (Scott)
runs a hardware business which is failing and |
going into
debt apparently through his own incompetence and |
reluctance
to change. Then he is told he has to upgrade the |
building
which would cost a fortune. |
Conveniently
the stress leads to amnesia which occurs has |
he's driving
aimlessly around. At the point of discovering he |
doesn't know
where he is or who he is he finds himself |
among a
community of illegal Mexican (?) field workers. |
Though they
have troubles of their own with hiring bosses and |
immigration
officials they take him under their wing. And in |
return he
brings his skills to help them. His repairing of a |
toaster is
received as though he'd turned water into wine. He |
also works
in the fields picking lettuce until it exhausts him. |
This scene
must be to illustrate how hard the work is since he |
is obviously
totally unsuitable for it. |
The 'leader'
of the workers walks with a limp and uses a stick. |
This
resulted from catching his leg in a wagon door when |
travelling
as hobo two years before. He, Ruben, discovers |
who Max is.
They take him back to his store but he turns |
away from
it. (The fate of his wife is all this time ignored). |
When husband
and wife eventually meet again she says their |
marriage is
ended. But he gets the workers settled and |
returns to
his wife and revives their relationship. Even the |
business
gets back on its feet as Max and Arlene's |
There's a
big message being touted here and amnesia is |
simply the
means to end. In a real life case vaguely similiar to |
this story
it was generally considered that the woman was |
faking her
condition as a way of escaping her problems. |
Scott may be
referred to as "legendary" in the film's blurb but |
this is a
very weak performance. |
