NOTES B/W.

An amnesiac searches for his identity via a number of women.

James Garner struggles with the role but he's such an amiable

actor we accept him. Mr Buddwing who has invented his name

having lost his own finds himself calling after woman who he

thinks he recognises as part of his life. Quite sensibly he only

calls after attractive women like Jean Simmons, Suzanne

Pleshette and Katherine Ross. Maybe he hasn't lost his memory

but gained some testerone. One woman he picks up, Pleshette,

takes him home hoping a bowl of food and a long leash will keep

him there. Another ,Simmons, picks him up as the lost piece in a

scavenger hunt. Her basket complete she begins to philosophise.

Throw in a newspaper headline which reads "Dangerous Mental

Patient Escapes" and we become curious about the film's

message. But very soon Mr. Buddwing's search for identity has

run off the edge of the screen.

From the novel by Evan Hunter who wrote "The Birds" screenplay.
