The story of
a boy who is adopted, fares poorly at school and |

is a
disappointment to his father until he starts diving. |

He goes to
the 1976 Olympics and wins a silver medal. He |
|
goes to the
1984 Olympics and wins two gold medals. |
|
'But' all
this time he's gay. His partner has AIDS and |
|
pneumonia
and he himself is diagnosed HIV positive. He still |
|
goes to the
Seoul Olympics in 1988 and during one dive he |
|
bangs his
head on the lower diving board. At this point, me |
|
with my
fixed mindset, thought he was going to be paralysed |
|
but no, he
goes on to win another gold. |
|
I'm not
really into sports films which are just about sport and |
|
even the gay
issue is not handled all that well. |
