NOTES Set in Ireland.
A young mother, Helen, discovers that her brother, Declan, is in hospital and that he is gay and has AIDS. He says he wants to stay at their grandmother's house where they had happy memories of childhood. Flashbacks portray earlier times.
Helen decides to stay at her grandmother's to help looking after Declan leaving her husband to care for their children. Then their widowed mother arrives. Helen is estranged from her mother and most of the film is concerned with tensions in the family. But while Declan is dying the family is reconciled.
A very good cast, even Angela Lansbury is rescued from the confines of "Murder She Wrote". Lansbury is English as is Gina McKee, Dianne Wiest and Sam Robards are American presumably because this is a U.S. film.
More a story about families than AIDS.
